This site is published by Mario Barrera LLC. The person answering for what is written here is Mario Barrera, a licensed insurance agent in Texas. His license and NPN are above, in plain sight and without having to look for them: they are the same ones shown in the consent you sign on any form on this site.
GastosFuneral is a free Spanish-language funeral home directory, built for a family that has just lost someone and has to make expensive decisions within hours. The idea is simple: see what is nearby, know what you are entitled to demand, and compare before signing.
What this site is not
This comes first, because it causes the most confusion and is usually said the least:
- It is not a funeral home. We do not prepare, transport or cremate anyone, and we have no funeral facilities.
- We do not sell funeral services and we take no commission on what you arrange with a funeral home. What you agree with them is between you and them.
- We do not charge funeral homes to be in the directory or to correct their data. The directory is free in both directions.
- We are not an insurance company. Mario Barrera is a licensed agent: he represents the insurers he works with, he does not replace them.
- We are not lawyers or financial planners. Nothing on this site is legal or financial advice: it is public information organized so you can decide better.
How the directory is built and verified
This is what actually happens to each record, in the order it happens. If a step is not listed here, it is not done.
1. Source: a commercial business listing
The records came in through bulk CSV imports in June 2026. The listing classifies businesses by SIC code 7261 — funeral services and crematories — and carries name, phone, mailing address, city, county, state and ZIP code.
2. Three required fields, or the row is rejected
A record with no name, no phone or no state does not get in. It is not padded with a placeholder: it is discarded and logged in that import's error record, with the reason.
3. One record per phone number
The phone number is normalized to ten digits — stripping the country prefix when present — and used as the identifier. If the number already exists, the row updates that record instead of creating a duplicate. That is why you will not see the same funeral home twice under the same phone.
4. Geography is resolved against our own tables
State, county, city and ZIP are linked to the site's own geographic tables. A record whose state does not exist is not slipped in: it is rejected. That is what lets a listing show up in its city and its county rather than in a loose list.
5. Businesses that are not funeral homes are excluded
The source listing mixes funeral homes with casket and monument makers, headstone and granite shops, florists, supply vendors and pet crematories. Those records are flagged with the reason for their exclusion — they are not deleted, so the decision stays reviewable — and every public query on the site filters them out.

Does the directory cost anything?
No. Searching funeral homes, comparing them and reading the guides costs nothing, and no sign-up is needed to see the directory. We also do not charge funeral homes to appear in it.
So how does this site make money?
From final expense insurance. Mario Barrera is a licensed agent and, if you ask, he will walk you through that kind of coverage at no cost or obligation. That is the only source of income, and that is why it is said here and not in the fine print: you deserve to know what the person informing you gains.
What does it mean for a funeral home to be “verified”?
That its record passed the checks in our data load: it has a name, a phone and a state; its phone is unique in the directory; its geography resolved against our tables; and it is not on the list of businesses excluded for not being funeral homes. It does not mean we called them, or that we checked their license with the state regulator.
I run a funeral home and my data is wrong. How do I fix it?
